Sarah Brennan, PhD
Dr. Brennan is a clinical psychologist with many years of experience working with adults, couples, children, adolescents, and families. She has expertise in a wide range of issues including trauma, difficulties with emotional and sexual intimacy, mood and personality disorders, emotional and behavioral challenges in children and adolescents, and family conflict.
Dr. Brennan sees adults and adolescents in talk-based therapy, and children in play therapy. She works closely with parents/caregivers to support the family's understanding of their child's internal world and how best to respond to it. At Uptown Downtown, she provides individual supervision and runs the Child and Family supervision group.
Dr. Brennan earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from Long Island University - Brooklyn; completed her pre-doctoral internship at Mount Sinai Beth Israel and her post-doctoral fellowship in the treatment of trauma at Mount Sinai Morningside; and spent years working in NYC hospitals including Columbia University Medical Center, Beth Israel, St. Luke's Roosevelt, and Bronx Children's Psychiatric Center.
Recognizing that insight is sometimes not enough, Dr. Brennan’s warm, down-to-earth style combines exploration with more active interventions. She has extensive training in psychodynamic, family systems, play and couples therapy techniques, and is DBT certified.
